When I started my blog I set it up on WordPress.com and loved it. Since then I have ran into a few restriction and wanted a way around them. I have found it! I have decided to host my blog on my own web server which gives me a lot of control. To do this I setup and installed WordPress on my server and transfered the information over.

I HAVE DONE IT! (I cheer because I don’t know much about web development and it worked)

But there is a problem. I feel like a 1st grader when I say, “All the other cool bloggers have good domain names!” So I have been brainstorming and have not come up with anything yet. Today I made the decision to just move forward with a domain that I have and if I think of one I will forward it over.

Right now I have it set up much like wordpress.com, but hopefully you’ll see some changes as I figure this out.

What do to do with your laptop?

When you are using your laptop at a coffee shop what do you do with it when you have to go the the bathroom? I decided that when I first get there I find someone that looks like they will be there for a while I try to make a connection… say hi, ask them something about the t-shirt they are wearing. Then I have a friend and I can leave my laptop, they will watch it for me.

hmmm. Disney could have saved some money.

Not a treefort, a true treehouse

When I was little I really wanted a treefort and we had the perfect tree. My dad said that he would build me the sturdy platform so that I could build the rest around. Now that I am older I think that was really good idea, start with a good base and let the kid build his own fort, truly making it his own. When I was young I was thinking of something more like this:

In a towering, 58-year-old silver maple, Steve Norris spent 15 months building the ultimate treehouse for his two sons.

It’s equipped with electricity and cable TV. There’s an intercom so Norris can talk to his kids if they’re having a sleepover.

A smoke detector is wired to the house, so family members can be alerted to any smoke, whether they’re in the treehouse or not. A revolving light clicks on when the treehouse’s trap door opens (where a rope ladder drops down).

Old fire horns that Norris snagged from the University of Waterloo blare if an intruder tries to break into the fort. “It sounds like an air-raid back in Berlin. But I had to do it for my peace of mind.”

Even the family’s Jack Russell-cross, Sammy, has his own ramp. Norris made it after the dog fell near the top of the wide, stair-like ladder.

The roof is sealed and welded on tight, and the floor is sturdy enough to hold an adult. Stephen sleeps in a loft bed, Ryan on a mini-futon and their father on a pull-down bed.

Phelps on the cover of what cereal box???

When we heard that Phelps was going to be on the cover of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes we were shocked. Athletes are supposed to be on the Wheaties box! My wife, because she is a General Mills employee, was not happy! But she wasn’t as outraged as some. Rebecca Solomon of Mount Sinai Medical Center said, “I would not consider Frosted Flakes the food of an Olympian … I would rather see him promoting Fiber One…”

What? He doesn’t eat FiberOne? He eats 12,000 calories a day. From his autobiography Beneath the Surface:

Start with three sandwiches of fried eggs, cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, and mayonnaise; add one omelet, a bowl of grits, and three slices of French toast with powdered sugar; then wash down with three chocolate chip pancakes.

So, that’s the food of an Olympian, thats far more “unhealthy” than Frosted Flakes and its not even close to FiberOne. I think people need to calm down a little bit.

the results of her first roll.

As parents you get excited about little things that your baby does. Yesterday Lydia rolled over for the first time, from her back to her stomach. We are excited, but also thinking that we have to watch her more closely. No more leaving her on the bed as we get ready for the day.

Late library books, not just a fine anymore.

Another story I found on my friend Joey’s blog. I know it seems I link to his a lot but he had another good one, please don’t stop reading mine and read them both.

Woman cuffed, booked for not paying library fines

GRAFTON, Wis. – A Wisconsin woman has been arrested and booked for failing to pay her library fines.

Twenty-year-old Heidi Dalibor told the News Graphic in Cedarburg that she ignored the library’s calls and letters as well as a notice to appear in court.

Still, she was surprised when officers with a warrant knocked on her door, cuffed her and took her to the police station to be fingerprinted and photographed.

Police Capt. Joe Gabrish says officers follow the same procedure with every warrant.

Library director John Hanson says a couple of dozen people are cited each year for failure to return materials or pay fines.

The incident cost Dalibor about $30 for the two overdue paperbacks. It cost her mother $172 to free her.

Painting: its worth it.

I don’t think I’ll ever love the actual task of painting, but I do love what a simple coat of paint does. Today we had my mom come over and watch Lydia so we could finally get a start on painting our house. We spent the morning and part of the afternoon working on the garage door and trim. We were so excited to see the results, it totally changes the house. As we were cleaning up and put up the garage the paint started to peel away. ALL THAT WORK OUT THE WINDOW, I KNEW WE SHOULD HAVE LAiD A PRIMER!!! So I called Hiershfields and explained our dilemma, the guy said that the paint had not cured and we should wait a week or so and see how it turns out. Phew! What a relief, so we are ok, we got a good start. We still have to paint the actual house and put another coat on the trim, so there is a lot of work, but its gonna look good.

Jesus, King of Angels

As I am doing some work at the coffee shop I was listening to Hymns of Worship by Fernando Ortega. God used the song Jesus, King of Angels to calm my somewhat anxious heart. As Anna and I are thinking about going back to work full time we are both a little sad. Sad knowing that we will have to leave Lydia with someone else. We have been so blessed to see every step of her development so far and it saddens us to know that we may miss some of the future steps. This song reminded me that God knows that we are sad and He is in control. I trust Him and pray that has we move forward he will give us more love Himself and we will rise to speak the goodness of his name to Lydia and to the people that he brings into our path.

But You are mindful when the sparrow falls, And mindful of the anxious thoughts That find me, surround me, and bind me . . . .
